History
On June 14, 1956, Trier Pallien established an electrician's office. The origin of NATUS was located in a small garage, which was not uncommon in the post-war years of the company's early history. In the first few years, construction drawings for any type of electrical control system would be generated. This represents Metzenauer& amp; Jung's products are also sold. The most important customer at that time was Laeis from Trier, and the company is still a customer to this day. On the eve of Christmas in 1958, founder Matthias Natus suddenly died of a heart attack. This is a shock to this family, and for such a small and young company, it is usually the end. However, despite the heavy losses, the family still decided not to give up their business. In 1959, Matthias' son Wolfgang Natus wrote a letter to all business partners informing them that Matthias Natus company would continue to operate. By 1960, the first warehouse was needed, located in Theobaldstrasse in Trier. At that time, the financial means were still very limited; However, NATUS has developed very strongly from the beginning. In 1962, the first independent administrative and production building appeared on Loebstrasse, and today the site remains the main administrative building.
In the 1970s, NATUS developed the first medium and low voltage switchgear system using detachable unit technology, which was a technological milestone and marked the foundation for the company's successful growth in the following decades. The establishment of this facility has also been proven to be future oriented. NATUS' products and installation services are not only sold in Germany, but also successfully exported to the Soviet Union, Libya, and Iran for the first time. At this point, NATUS has exceeded the threshold of 100 employees. Libya has implemented a special project - a contract to build a chemical plant for a company called Siel in Cologne. This work was carried out on-site for four years from 1978 to 1982. When you think about the six NATUS employees and their families moving to Libya throughout the entire project, the changes of the times are truly extraordinary. They were all placed in a large camp - almost unimaginable today.
In the 1980s, NATUS continued to develop its products and increasingly became a recognized manufacturer of switchgear. In addition to installation work, the company is also developing the first pioneering skills in the field of automation technology. The business was very good in the 1980s, and there was also a positive feeling in the workforce. In addition, a men's and women's football team was also established - both successful and interesting. With the normal fluctuations of switchgear construction work, the company's revenue and number of employees continue to grow. The factory located at Loebstrasse 12 always bursts at the seams and is gradually expanding and upgrading.
Automation continues to leave a deep impression, and NATUS has launched its first engineering tool EPLAN, which has completely changed engineering work in terms of speed. The image on the right shows countless mini "Bill Gates" proudly gathered around the computer after the implementation of EPLAN in 1987. The next expansion occurred in 1993. NATUS has acquired a large piece of land at the corner of Loebstrasse/Auer von Welsbach Strasse and is gradually using existing buildings for administrative and production purposes. Our most important clients at that time were Thyssen, Husky, KHS, Krones, and the Bitburger Brewery Group. NATUS still considers these companies as important customers to this day.
2002 witnessed the next generation of change in NATUS history. By then, Wolfgang Natus had been leading the company for over 40 years and had grown it from a small initial scale to a considerable scale, enjoying an impeccable reputation. In addition to qualified, motivated, and loyal employees, the company also needs a senior executive to make important decisions, take full and personal responsibility, and spend sleepless nights for the company - therefore, thank you to Wolfgang Natus for his extraordinary career achievements. Frank Natus took over the family business in 2002. Under the new leadership, the internationalization process of the company continues to advance. NATUS has established representative offices in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Austria, and Dubai, as well as joint ventures in China. The automation technology business department continues to develop and has established a solution business field for turnkey electrical technology solutions. Besides the switchgear business, it is expected that both will bring new business opportunities. In addition, our presence at international trade exhibitions has greatly increased. Nowadays, NATUS is regularly exhibited at trade fairs in Hanover, Utrecht, Dubai, and Shanghai.
The company was founded 50 years ago, initially as an electronics company, and has continued to move forward. There have been very good times, but there have also been challenging negotiation obstacles. Result - In 2006, NATUS became a family owned enterprise with over 400 employees, achieving a turnover of approximately 60 million euros through five business areas. We can now provide comprehensive electrical technology solutions, ranging from switchgear systems, automation and control technology, to any type of service support, and even integrated solutions. Due to our partnerships and our own sales network, we are becoming increasingly active globally, which also makes us more geographically independent and more attractive to active customers worldwide.
In 2007/2008, NATUS worked in RWE and E ON has won numerous major projects in the field of power plants, competing with international competitors. Nowadays, thousands of NATUS switchgear arrays have been installed in five major power stations. Another milestone for our family business is that, in terms of our capabilities, strength, and funding for major projects, we are now competing fiercely with major groups not only in the power plant sector but also in other major industry sectors.
The new contract has pushed our engineering and manufacturing capabilities beyond new boundaries. Therefore, in 2010, a highly modern manufacturing factory was built, where the entire mechanical manufacturing process can be centralized.
We have also established a firm foothold in the Middle East. After years of effort, we have made a breakthrough in Dubai and currently provide nearly a thousand sets of medium voltage switchgear systems for numerous substations. In Qatar, we are partnering exclusively with the Al Thani royal family, which will bring us significant additional business.
After 60 years of establishment, NATUS now has over 500 employees and is the largest family owned enterprise in Trier. The path of sustained growth in the future has been determined.
In July 2016, we held a family summer festival at our company. More than 1000 participants gathered together in the pleasant summer, including about 250 children, who rode pedal boats and bounced around the inflatable castle until late at night. The attractions, food highlights, manufacturing factory tours, and joyful gatherings accompanied by wonderful music that are suitable for all ages make this day a special celebration for our employees, their families, and friends. On a long and warm summer night, there is a vibrant and wonderful family atmosphere.
